Ewald Joseph August

April 17, 1935 — May 15, 2025

The Lord brought home Ewald Joseph August "E" of Catonsville, MD, on May 15, 2025 surrounded by family. Born April 17, 1935, to the late George and Josephine August.

Ewald proudly served in the Coast Guard Reserves for 39 years achieving rank of Chief Petty Officer.

Graduated from Anacostia High School Class of '52 and immediately began his 48 year career with A&P Supermarket, starting in the Produce Department and working his way up to DMV Regional Produce Buyer.

Married Betty Jane Cauffman in 1954, settling in Cheverly MD, where their children were raised.

In 1982, Ewald and Shirley Ann Baker married and bought a farm in Windsor Mill in 1984. The farm was the gathering place for Easter celebrations, Thanksgiving dinners, Halloween hayrides, and Santa Christmas visits.

Ewald's expertise in produce led them to what would become Moody Blues Farm. Starting with 25 blueberry plants and expanding close to 2000 bushes when they sold the farm in 2024. Shirley and Ewald worked tirelessly nurturing the "Duke" variety, picking, packing, and selling at local markets. Moody Blues berries were in high demand and their farm was featured in numerous news articles.

Ewald was avid fan and enjoyed following the Washington Senators and Redskins. He witnessed the 1992 Super Bowl XXVI win over the Buffalo Bills live in Minnesota.

Ewald had a strong faith in the lord, enjoyed reading his Bible, listening to Christian programs, music, and sharing his faith with others.

Ewald was preceded in death by his brother George, daughter Elizabeth Dawn and granddaughter Jamie Singleton. He is survived by his beloved wife Shirley of 43 years, his children David Joseph (Marcy), Donna Marie Whiteside (Tom), Daniel Wayne (Sherry), Denise, stepdaughter Lori Cooper, sister Irma Ann Hartman, 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 25 nieces and nephews.
