Whether through his love of card games, zest for gardening and home projects, or spending time with his loved ones beating them in ping pong, Ed Simon’s spirit for life was immeasurable. On November 1, 2026, Edward Joseph Simon passed away at the age of 77 years old at St. Elizabeth’s| Noah’s Place in Baltimore, Maryland from Parkinsons.
Born to wartime sweethearts, Ed’s story began on January 7, 1949 in Baltimore. His parents, Edward Bernard Simon (Pete) and Liselotte Freundl Simon raised both Ed and his sister, Linda Reichnach, on Holland Street in a home full of music, love, and laughter.
Ed’s mother, Liselotte, a native of Munich, Germany, would pass on a passion for music and the accordion, which would be a defining characteristic that would follow him throughout his life. But music wasn’t his only passion. Ed was a huge fan of all things sports, and his life was forever changed when Baltimore received another football team in 1996. The devastation of losing the Colts was a story he would tell his children time and time again. But with the Baltimore Ravens coming to his city, his love for the game was reignited.
Hardworking and faith-filled are two words that simply begin to touch on Ed Simon’s character. He followed his father’s footsteps into the family business, Edward’s Roofing Company, and honed his skills of humor and joke-telling. Many family members joined him in the work, and remember his kindness, diligence, and generosity with customers and the community.
However, his most notable life achievement was meeting the love of his life, Mary Patricia Ames Simon, at a CYO dance in 1967. Ed and Pat were high school sweethearts and quickly became inseparable. Ed would become part of the Ames Crew of Irvington, where Pat was the oldest of 11 children, and whose family would welcome him as part of their own. Ed and Pat were married on January 23,1971, and would go on to build a loving and faith-filled family of their own. Ed was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Mark Parish in Catonsville, Maryland.
Ed is survived by his wife, Mary Patricia Simon; his five children Lisa Yaider (Doug), Bridget Simon, Julie Gilless (Jeremy), Patrick Simon (Kara), and Adam Simon (Anne-Marie); 17 grandchildren - Brandon, Jason (Luciene), Ian, Nathan, Jacob, Grace, Justin, Andrew, Isabelle, Abigail, Diana, Lillian, Luciana, Jack, Natalie, Ryleigh, and Angelina; one great grandchild - Kamylla; and one great-great grandchild - Henrique; along with many extended family members, dear friends, and his St. Mark community whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
Viewing and visitation will be held at MacNabb Funeral Home in Catonsville on Friday, November 6, 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at St. Mark Church on Saturday, November 7 at 10 a.m. If you would like to make a donation to the American Parkinson's Disease Association in lieu of flowers, please follow the link below:
