Dorothy “Dot” Elizabeth Michael (née Tuder), 96, peacefully went home to the Lord on September 10, 2024. After an illness no one anticipated would be her last, she passed just miles from her lifelong hometown of Catonsville, Maryland.
Dot is survived by her children: son R. Stephen, daughter Cathy; her five beloved grandchildren: Stacy, Jacqueline, Douglas, Daniel, and Deana; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, William C. Tuder, her first husband George “Whitey” Parton, many of her cherished “Coe” cousins, and numerous dear friends. Dot lived out her final years at Charlestown Retirement Community, where she was surrounded by friends and a loving community.
Born on November 29, 1927, to the late William Joseph Tuder and Annie Elizabeth (née Coe) in Catonsville, Dot spent her entire life in the area after graduating from Catonsville High School. She was a fighter, having triumphed over cancer multiple times and faced the loss of a stillborn child and her first husband. Yet, through all her trials, she never gave in to despair. Instead, Dot adopted an indomitable spirit, combining her sharp wit with a remarkable memory. She never forgot to call and wish her loved ones well on birthdays or anniversaries.
After the passing of her second husband, Thomas Michael, Dot became the fiercely independent woman her family will always cherish. From embarking on travel adventures to enjoying trips "down the ocean," Dot embraced life to the fullest. She remained an active member of Catonsville United Methodist Church and bowled with her duckpin league well into her late 80s. She also lived independently in the home she and George bought until her relocation to Charlestown.
Before her vision declined, Dot was an avid player of solitaire, slot machines, crosswords, bingo, and sudoku. She also loved painting and crafting, hobbies she passed down to her daughter and grandchildren. A voracious reader of both fiction and non-fiction, she was eagerly awaiting her next delivery from the Library of Congress' BARD program.
Whether you knew her as Mom, Grandma, Dot, or GG, she was a remarkable woman whose absence will be deeply felt.
The family will receive friends on Monday, September 16, 2024, at MacNabb Funeral Home, P.A., 301 Frederick Road, Catonsville, Maryland, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, with a viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park, 2724 Liberty Road, Sykesville, Maryland.
