Doris Louise Bailey

Mrs. Doris Louise Bailey went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Saturday, November 25, 2023. Born May 3, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Pastor and Mrs. Henry Braun. Born in Pekin, Illinois, she spent most of her growing up years in small towns where her father pastored in North and South Dakota. She earned a bachelor's degree in nutrition from Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota. While a student there, she met her future husband, John William Bailey, Jr. who was stationed at Mitchell Air Force Base in 1943. During the Second World War, their exchange of letters and a budding romance led to their marriage on June 7, 1946. After the war, they lived in Kansas City and Rolla, Missouri before eventually settling in Catonsville, MD., where they lived for over 50 Years. A devout Christian, Doris taught a ladies Sunday School class at Catonsville Baptist Church, where she was a member for years. She also led Bible studies for the ladies in her neighborhood, as well as at the Charlestown senior center where she lived during the last years of her life. In, addition she taught a course in nutrition at the university of Maryland School of nursing for many years. She was a devoted mother and daughter, helping to care for her elderly mother who also reached the age of 90. Married for almost 60 years, Doris was predeceased by her husband, John, and an infant daughter, Barbara Louise. She is survived by her sister, Norma Files. She is also survived by four adult children; John William lll (Jack) of Laurel, MD; Susan Fagan of Batesville, Indiana; Stephen Paul of Catonsville, MD; and James Henry (Jim) of Berkley Springs, W.V. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Faith Bible Church in Elkridge, MD or the American Federation of the Blind.


There will be a viewing for friends and family on Thursday, November 30 at MacNabb Funeral Home from 5pm until 8pm. A Christian service will be held at Faith Bible Church in Elkridge, MD. at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 1
