David Randolph Porter Sr. (Randy) entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 13, 2026, following complications from a stroke. He leaves behind a legacy of service, kindness, and devotion to family.

Born on November 25, 1940, to Lewis Bishop Porter and Marie Louise Porter (née Schneider), Randy grew up in the Howard Park neighborhood of Baltimore. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 57 years, Judith Anne Porter (née Small), his brother, Louis Emil Porter, and his sister, Jancis (Jancy) Lynne Harvey. He is survived by his son, David Randolph Porter Jr. (Randy) of Catonsville, Maryland, his brother, Jonathan Christopher Porter, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Randy’s early life was marked by determination and perseverance. He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1958 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in physical science and chemistry from Towson State University in 1964. While pursuing his education, he worked on excavation and demolition crews in West Virginia, helping build roads and tunnels. At times, he lived out of his car to support himself and pay for college.

He proudly served his country as a Second Lieutenant and completed Naval Aviation training, reflecting his lifelong passion for flying. Randy had a deep love of reading and was widely known for his extraordinary knowledge of world and American history—he was, to many who knew him, a walking encyclopedia. He was a man of quiet strength and generosity, always willing to help those less fortunate.

Randy devoted much of his professional life to education. After working as a surveyor, he taught at Mount Saint Joseph High School in Baltimore and later in the Anne Arundel County Public School system, where he taught physical science and chemistry. He also taught mathematics at Catonsville Community College, helping students working toward their GED. He had a gift for explaining even the most complex ideas with clarity and patience.

An exceptional athlete, Randy was an accomplished baseball pitcher and carried his love of the game into coaching youth baseball, including his son’s team, as well as coaching basketball. He shared not only his knowledge of the game but also his character and values with those he mentored. He was also an avid fisherman who found immense joy and peace on the water.

Randy will be remembered for his integrity, compassion, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. Above all, he was a devoted father who cared deeply for his family and was always there for others, quietly offering his time, kindness, and generosity without seeking recognition. He will also be remembered for his gift of storytelling, his sharp mind, and his quick wit, which brought laughter to those around him. May he rest in peace and be welcomed into the joy of eternal life in the presence of the Lord. He will be forever missed by his family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.
