Cindy Covington

Cynthia Anne Covington of Ellicott City, Maryland, passed away in her home on September 19, 2026, surrounded by her immediate family. Cindy was born and grew up in Wadesboro, North Carolina and spent long summer days with her mother and father, Lou and Jack and brother Fred, at her beloved beach cottage in Cherry Grove, South Carolina. She attended Salem Academy and graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She eventually moved to Maryland where she started working as a caseworker at several local social service agencies. Cindy became a social worker after earning a Masters in Social Work at the University of Maryland. After she married her husband Bill, they moved to Catonsville, Maryland and raised three children. In addition to balancing the demands of motherhood, and a professional career, she managed to earn a law degree at the University of Maryland Law School.

Cindy had wide ranging interest and in-depth knowledge of vintage china, glassware, silverware and mid-century modern furniture. She assembled a vast collection of those items and became an avid seller on Ebay. Cindy loved attracting birds and potting flowers and plants. In summer her porch was a lush, green place to sit and watch bluebirds, finches, and hummingbirds.

Cindy is survived by her husband, Bill Herzing, her daughter Meredith Herzing Lynch and sons Matthew Ross Herzing and William John Herzing as well as granddaughter Fiadh Grace Lynch.
