Charles Hicks

Charles was born on May 10, 1949 in Baltimore, MD to Rose McCallister. He graduated from City College in Baltimore in 1967 before serving in the Army during the Vietnam War. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in chemistry at Morgan State University and his Master’s degree in software engineering at Loyola University. Charles retired after many years supporting NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope and James Webb Space Telescope.

Charles was a dedicated and giving man who always showed up for others. He represented more than his kind leadership, often displaying heartful playfulness through dance and silly facial expressions. Never too shy to be the only male in a dance troop class, Charles marched to the beat of his own drum and shared his love of life with his wife of 50 years, Beverly. His love for a challenge was apparent from his hobby of running marathons. His support and dedication for family began with his commitment to his brothers, James and Angelo, and carried on as he displayed a strong sense of responsibility in raising his two children, Jermaine and Jasemine. His impact went beyond family as evidenced by his commitment to volunteer communities. If anyone was ever in need, they could always count on Charles for resolution.

Charles is survived by his wife, Beverly Hicks, his children, Jermaine Hicks and Jasemine Hicks, and his brothers, James Manuel and Angelo Manuel.
