Charles B. Brookes, Jr. “Charlie”

March 25, 1943 – December 2, 2025

It is with deep sorrow to announce the passing of Charles B. Brookes, Jr. affectionately known as “Charlie” on December 2, 2025, after a lengthy and arduous battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Charles B. and Margaret H. (Allen) Brookes, Sr. of Dundalk, MD. Charles leaves behind his devoted companion, Tonna Phelps, and loving sisters: Margaret B. Evans, Mary B. Kottraba (Bob), Patricia B. Lepley (Gary, d.2015), and Denise B. Szimanski (John). He was a proud grandfather to five accomplished grandchildren.

Charles’ educational journey began at St. Rita School (’58), continued at Mt. Saint Joseph’s High School (’61), Loyola College (’65), and West Virginia University (’66). He built a distinguished career in electrical engineering with the Department of the Navy, which took him around the globe. After retiring, Charles generously shared his expertise in the private sector, assisting homeowners at Home Depot, supporting plane de-icing at Baltimore Washington International, and, during the summer months, golf-ball reconnaissance at Compass Pointe Golf Course. Known for his steadfast work ethic, Charles made a lasting impression alongside many colleagues and friends. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, reading, and tinkering on numerous ongoing projects. With his extensive religious upbringing Charles was an active parishioner at St. Athanasius Church in Curtis Bay, MD.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthanasius and St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 708 Prudence Street, Baltimore (21226) on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
