Caroline Smith Humke

Caroline Smith Humke passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Emerald Assisted Living, Damascus, Maryland. She was born November 16, 1932 the second child of Imboden Jackson and Carrie Irene Smith. She was raised in the New Windsor countryside of Carroll County, Maryland. She graduated from the New Windsor High School and then joined the Army where she worked as a code breaker.

She married her husband, the late Lewis Harold Humke, son of Louis and Alice Cissna Humke, on July 7, 1951 at Fort Benning Georgia.

She is survived by her daughter Carol Humke Moore and son-in-law, Stephen Moore, grandchildren Matthew, Eric, Benjamin, Josh and Sarah and 11 great-grandchildren and her son, David Lewis Humke and daughter-in-law, Julie, and granddaughter, Lily,; sister, Ruth Ellen Smith England and nephew, Ken, and brother, M. Wayne Smith and wife, Ruth Elaine and nephew, Steven, and niece, Debbie.

Caroline was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. We miss her.

The family requests donations be made to the Frederick County Public Library in lieu of flowers.
